The Illnesses that Lead to Mouth Sores

One of the most common oral problems is mouth sores. These painful oral conditions can affects people from everywhere and of different ages. Mouth sores may appear inside of the cheek or lips, at the base of the gums and even on the tongue. Detection of mouth sores is easy because although unseen by other people, they make eating, swallowing and talking very painful.

Sores are more likely to occur when abnormal flow saliva happens. So, what are the Illnesses that lead to Mouth Sores? Commonly mouth sores are triggered by gastrointestinal problems, Coxsackie, emotional stress, infection, and weakened immune system, ill-fitting dentures that rub against the cheek or gums, food allergies. Coxsackie virus also known as hand, foot and mouth disease is the most common cause of mouth sores. Children between six months to three years are usually affected.  The common symptom of this virus includes high fever, drooling everywhere, refusal to drink water and rashes.

Another cause of mouth sores is the herpes virus which is different from genital herpes. This virus has common symptoms as the Coxsackie virus except that the person does not have rashes on the body.  There are times when the virus will spread to the child's fingertips from eating or chewing as a result a child's fingertips will be swollen.

Mouth sores can be caused by bacterial infections.  Bacterial infections may lead to sores and swelling of the mouth. Emotional stress may also trigger sores such as biting of the tongue and bumping the lip as a result from trauma.  Stress may be difficult to handle at times but one must manage it well to avoid getting this painful sores. Gastrointestinal problems causing mouth sores are the inability of a person to digest.  One must also remember that a person can get mouth sores as a result of body changes or significant weight lost at one time.

Immediate remedy of mouth sores is required because the patient’s lips can very painful. Mouth sores can be an annoying illness but there are measures taken to alleviate the feeling of discomfort.  Home remedies like salt water gargles, oral medications, mouthwashes and drink plenty amount of water can offer sore relief. Patient must avoid any food or beverages that would aggravate the mouth.  In terms of stress, one should try de-stressing, get plenty of rest and should eat properly.  If the problem still persist after two weeks then it would be better to consult a doctor.  Treating and preventing these sores at an early stage would avoid bigger risks.
