How to Treat Periodontitis

Pregnant women are high risk of acquiring periodontal disease.  This is due to the hormonal changes that are happening in a pregnant woman’s body.  Although periodontal diseases do not happen overnight however; it heightens during pregnancy stage.  Thus, many professional dentists recommend that expected mothers should equally placed importance to seeing a dentist and obstetrician.

The person who can give a pregnant woman the best periodontitis treatment is a professional dentist.  There are some procedures that the dentist would do to ensure that safety of both the pregnant woman and her unborn child. Did you know that periodontal disease if left untreated will lead to preterm birth and restricted fatal growth of the child? Studies have shown that there many mothers give birth unexpectedly that leads to the baby’s death.  One cause is periodontitis.

How do you treat periodontitis?  There are many kinds of treatments for this kind of gum problems. One is prophylaxis or dental cleaning. This is a medical procedure perform by professional dentist. The purpose of this is to cleanse your teeth and gums removing plaques that are formulated due to irregular brushing of teeth. Secondly, you can evaluate your dental tools such as toothbrush and toothpaste.  With gum disease, brushing of your teeth can be very painful. Your teeth and gums are now sensitive and it may be hard for to eat and drink your food.

With this, you need toothpaste for sensitive teeth and toothbrush with soft bristle. This will help you feel a little comfortable.  Thirdly, avoid spicy and sweet foods for the mean time.  Too much sugar does not help in the fast recovery of your mouth. Fourthly, eat healthy and nutritious food. Keeping yourself fit will hasten your recovery. Drink Vitamin C or as prescribed by your doctor. Lastly, avoid smoking cigarette. Smoking is very bad for your health. Moreover, it aggravates your gum disease.  It deteriorates your immune system. Once it does, then you have a big problem to face.

Always take precaution in everything that you do. Remember that you are not only taking good care of yourself but most importantly your unborn child.  Your baby is depending on your for almost everything. If you are weak, then it will greatly affect him or her.  Therefore, it is best that you take extra care of yourself. Ensure that you take your vitamins on a regular basis. Most importantly, ensure that you have proper oral hygiene.
